Wednesday 14, May 2008 |

3-1 extra-time win over Wolviston FC in the League Cup final at Metcalfe

New Marske who forced the play and Wolviston had their 'keeper to thank
more than once for keeping their lead intact. With the clock ticking down,
New Marske finally levelled when Sean Mackin scored to force the game
into extra-time. Phil Peggs headed New Marske in front two minutes into
extra time and Sean Mackin added his second when lobbing the Wolviston
keeper for New Marske's third to complete an impressive trophy treble.

NEW
MARSKE 4 - 1 HARTLEPOOL FC
Saturday 3, May 2008 |
New Marske rested quite a few players ahead of Mondays Monkwearmouth Cup
Final but they took the game to Hartlepool and there keeper had to make
two good saves from Sean Mackin and Alex Anderson. Martin Say then ran
from the halfway line, beat two defenders and with only the keeper to
beat & ballooned the ball just over the bar. With 34 minutes gone
Hartlepool scored with their first shot on target when a cross ball fell
to Sean Wood who hit a crisp shot from 18 yards into the left hand corner.
HT: 0-1
New
Marske equalised on 54 minutes when MARTIN SAY ran down the wing, cut
into the box, beat a defender and his shot went between the keeper and
the near post. New Marske took the lead on 69 minutes when a cross from
substitute Sean Mackin found Say who seemed to be fouled in the box. The
referee waved play on and the ball fell to NICKY WARD to blast home from
10 yards. Ten minutes later a cross from Scott Davies found SEAN MACKIN
unmarked to head into the top left hand corner. Two minutes later, New
Marske grabbed a fourth when a corner kick by Simon Kasonali found SEAN
MACKIN again unmarked at the far post for a simple header.

Monday 28, April 2008 |
New Marske secured the Wearside League title with an emphatic win. MARTIN
SAY got the ball rolling heading New Marske in front after just 8 minutes
and MICHAEL MACKIN's deflected shot made it 2-0 three minutes later. A
misplaced Ryhope back pass fell kindly for DANE BRECKON who made no mistake
to complete the first half scoring.
Just
short of the hour mark, SEAN MACKIN added the fourth and ANDREW MITCHELL's
simple tapi in rounded off a memorable night.

NEW
MARSKE 5 - 0 SOUTH SHIELDS H & W
Saturday 19, April 2008 |
New Marske kicked off with the wind advantage on a very wet and boggy
pitch with both sides unable to play flowing football because of the conditions.
But when New Marske did get going it was chance after chance with the
Harton & Westoe keeper Making three excellent saves. Dane Breckon
missed a chance and also Martin Say headed wide from close range but then
New Marske got the goal they needed on 42 minutes when a cross from David
Hick was flicked on by Dane Breckon and the ball fell to SEAN Mackin to
score in the top corner from 15 yards. HT: 1-0.
Second
Half, Harton & Westoe applied some pressure but could not finish off.
But it was 2-0 to New Marske on 67 minutes when Sean Mackin split the
defence with a pass to DANE BRECKON who dummied a defender and shot into
the bottom corner. It was 3-0 two minutes later when David Hick played
the ball over the top of the defence to Sean Mackin whose powerful shot
was saved by the keeper but the ball fell to DANNY WILKINSON for a simple
tap in. Again 2 minutes later, it was 4-0 when MARTIN SAY ran down the
left wing, beat the defender, cut inside and curled the ball from 18 yards
into the far top corner. New Marske Made it 5-0 on 76 minutes when Kristian
Kamara ran down the right, cut into the box and blasted the ball into
the 6 yard box where it was saved but unluckily the ball came off the
keepers elbow and bounced into the net.

3
Saturday 12, April 2008 |

New Marske now have two finals to look forward to before the season ends
|
TEESSIDE
ATHLETIC 0 - 2 NEW MARSKE
Saturday 5, April 2008 |
The match kicked off in very blustery conditions down on
the coast with the wind in favour of Teesside in the first half. Teesside
were trying the long ball tactics which was easily swept up by New Marske
and when both teams managed to get the ball down on the ground New Marske
looked much more of a threat. A bit of a dull first half because of the
conditions but New Marske defended well to keep the score at half time
0-0.
The second half kicked off with New Marske having the wind advantage and
went 0-1 up when from an attacking move Sean Mackin put MARTIN SAY through
on the right who cut into the box with his pace and drilled the ball into
the far corner from 10 yards. It was 0-2 two minutes later on 51 minutes
when a corner kick by David Hick found MICHAEL MACKIN who headed the ball
in from 6 yards. For the rest of the half New Marske played some good
football and had a few chances but couldn't find the 3rd goal and just
played out the last 10 minutes with Teesside never causing any threat
in the second half.

SUNDERLAND
RYHOPE CW 1 - 1 NEW MARSKE
Wednesday
2, April 2008 |
Game
kicked off with Ryhope needing to win this game to catch up in the league
and straight from the off they were shutting New Marske down with tackle
after tackle not letting us get our passing game together. They had 3
or 4 chances in the first 25 minutes but luckily none went in. Then on
30 minutes Ryhope made it 1-0 from a corner kick when the Ryhope centre
half headed the ball from 6 yards against the cross bar but the ball fell
back to him to rifle the ball into the roof of the net. The last 15 minutes
was mainly backs to the wall for New Marske but with a few minutes to
go Martin Say had a couple of chances to equalise but the Ryhope keeper
made two good saves. HT: 1-0.
In the second half we were starting to play football and creating some
chances and Ryhope were trying to close us down with some cynical tackling
but New Marske had chance after chance but all went begging but we got
the equaliser on 78 minutes when a corner kick by David Hick caused a
6 yard box scramble but the ball came out to PHIL PEGGS who rifled the
ball into the net from 10 yards. The last 12 minutes was mainly New Marske
looking for the winner but it was not to come.

SOUTH
SHIELDS H&W 1 - 3 NEW MARSKE
Saturday
29, March 2008 |
Five
minutes before the game kicked off the heavens opened to a heavy downpour
which for the first 10 minutes meant the pitch was slippy with both teams
unable to control the ball because of the conditions. This resulted in
Harton & Westoe being awarded a penalty on 11 minutes when Scott Davies
attempted to make a tackle in the box but slid into his opponent with
the linesman immediately flagging for a penalty which Harton & Westoe
converted (1-0). New Marske picked up the game from here and were awarded
a penalty on 21 minutes when Martin Say was brought down in the penalty
area but Nicky Ward who had scored 13 consecutive penalties for New Marske
missed his fourteenth when he put his conversion high over the bar. The
rest of the first half was a scrappy affair with the ball being mainly
in the air most of the time. HT 1-0.
At
the half time interval the air in the changing rooms was a bit blue to
say the least which spurred on New Marske in the second half and sub David
Hick was brought on which changed the game for New Marske. New Marske
got the equaliser on 58 minutes when Martin Say ran up the wing, beat
a defender and whipped the ball into the box where SEAN MACKIN just managed
to get his toe to the ball before the keeper to ping it into the bottom
corner (1-1). New Marske were playing some good football now and got the
second on 73 minutes when a free kick by Nicky Ward was pinged into the
area where a goal mouth scramble occurred but the ball came out to MARK
FARRELL who hit the ball from 18 yards with a slight deflection into the
Harton & Westoe goal (1-2). New Marske sealed the win on 84 minutes
when Kristian Kamara put a lovely ball over the defence where DANE BRECKON
ran on and coolly chipped the keeper from 20 yards. Good turnaround from
the lads in the second half after an abysmal first half.

SUNDERLAND
RYHOPE CW 0 - 1 NEW MARSKE, Monkwearmouth
Charity Cup, SF
Saturday
22, March 2008 |
From
the kick off New Marske had the wind advantage and had chance after chance
in the first 15 minutes but the final ball was either high or wide with
the wind causing problems. As the first half wore on, Ryhope started to
play the better passing game and had quite a few chances themselves which
again were either high or wide or an easy save for Justin Hutchinson in
the New Marske goal. New Marske piled on the pressure with 10 minutes
to go but some good defending by Ryhope meant the first half ended goalless.
HT: 0-0.
Second
half against the wind New Marske played some neat passing football from
defence to forwards and had numerous chances but the ball just wouldn't
seem to go in. With 20 minutes to go, New Marske brought on a couple of
subs which seemed to work when one of the subs, Dane Breckon broke away
down the right hand side, beat the defender and crossed to SEAN MACKIN
who dummied the first defender then calmly slotted the ball into the bottom
corner. For the last 8 minutes Ryhope threw everything but the kitchen
sink at New Marske but the defence of Scott Davies, Kristian Kamara, Graham
Solomon and Michael Mackin were outstanding to put New Marske through
to the cup final against Annfield Plain sometime in May.
|
WINDSCALE
0 - 1 NEW MARSKE
Wednesday
19, March 2008 |
After
the 3 hour journey to Windscale the game kicked off on a very cold night
with Windscale having a couple of chances early on but New Marske keeper
Justin Hutchinson making one good save but then on 15 minutes New Marske
got the goal when a through ball by Nicky Ward deflected off the Windscale
defender and fell to SEAN MACKIN to chip the keeper from 18 yards. Windscale
pushed on for the rest of the half but found the New Marske defence unbeatable.
HT: 0-1.
Second
half New Marske took the game to Windscale but the keeper made some fine
saves to keep New Marske out. Late on in the half Sean Mackin and Gary
Wood had chances to score but their efforts went wide. When Windscale
did surge forward the New Marske defence broke them down.
|
COXHOE
ATHLETIC 0 - 3 NEW MARSKE
Saturday
15, March 2008 |
Game
kicked off with Coxhoe taking the game to New Marske with a changed team
having won their last three games and had a couple of shots in the first
ten minutes which keeper Justin Hutchinson made 2 good saves. As the half
went on New Marske came slowly into the game with some good flowing football
with 2 good chances from Sean Mackin but the Coxhoe keeper made some good
saves. Also, from a corner a header from Scott Davies just went wide but
Coxhoe held out for half time. HT: 0-0.
Second
half was one way traffic with attack after attack from New Marske and
surely a goal had to come which it did on 52 minutes when some good passing
in mid-field and Sean Mackin got the ball and flicked it over the Coxhoe
defence which put through new signing DANE BRECKON who chipped the keeper
from 15 yards (0-1). The second goal came on 78 minutes when Martin Say
made a surging run down the wing and played the ball into the box where
DANNY WILKINSON picked it up and shot into the far corner from 15 yards
(0-2). The game was over on 87 minutes when the lively Dane Breckon beat
a defender and put through a defence splitting pass for MARTIN SAY to
run onto and stab the ball past the keeper into the corner.
|
ANNFIELD
PLAIN 1 - 1 NEW MARSKE
Saturday
8, March 2008 |
Game
kicked off in near gusting winds with New Marske having the wind advantage
in the first half and for the first 15 minutes it was attack after attack
from New Marske but every attack seemed to fizzle out with the ball going
wide or the gusty wind running the ball out of play. As the half went
on Annfield Plain came into the game playing some neat football and Justin
Hutchinson in the New Marske goal kept Annfield Plain out with a couple
of good saves and New Marske held out for half time 0-0.
Second
half against the wind New Marske played some neat football and a few chances
went begging but then the game seemed to open up with chances for both
sides as the wind seemed to have dropped slightly. From an Annfield Plain
corner kick the wind swung it in onto the goal where Justin Hutchinson
seemed to get his fingers to it but the ball dropped into the far side
netting for 1-0 on 68 minutes. New Marske brought three subs on - David
Hick, Martin Say and Gary Wood - to try and freshen things up and for
the last fifteen minutes it was all New Marske with chance after chance
again going begging with the Annfield Plain keeper making some good saves.
A shot from Gary Wood from 15 yards hit the crossbar and bounced out but
virtually the last kick of the game New Marske got the equaliser on 94
minutes when Michael Kinnair got down the wing and put in a cross for
SEAN MACKIN to head in over the keeper into the net. Straight from the
kick off the referee blew the whistle.

CLEATOR
MOOR CELTIC 0 - 3 NEW MARSKE, Monkwearmouth Charity Cup, QF
Saturday 1, March 2008 |
After
a pitch inspection at 08.30 am ruled the game ‘just’ playable
New Marske made the long trip to Cleator Moor with only 12 fit players
after SAM GARVIE opted to play for Whitby Town. The game started at a
fast pace and play was end to end with both teams adapting well to the
very muddy conditions. As the game progressed New Marske gained supremacy
and won several corners and it was from a NICKY WARD corner that ALEX
ANDERSON got the slightest of touches to turn the ball into the net with
his head. HT: 0-1.
The
start of the second half saw Cleator Moor pressing hard for an equalizer
but KEVIN WOOD at the heart of the New Marske defence was in fine form
and dealt with everything that came his way. On the hour Cleator Moor
came close to an equalizer when a free kick on the edge of the box was
curled just outside of the far post. This seemed to give a wake up call
to New Marske and they pressed for a second goal which came in the 65th
minute when the ball was crossed in from the right by MARTIN SAY to the
edge of the box where ALEX ANDERSON with his back to goal brilliantly
controlled the ball with his chest, turned, beat the centre half, rounded
the keeper and slotted the ball into the net. This broke the spirit of
Cleator Moor who had little else to offer and with 10 minutes remaining
SCOTT DAVIES made sure of a semi-final trip to Ryhope when he headed in
a third goal after a goal mouth scramble.

ASHBROOKE
BH 3 - 2 NEW MARSKE
Wednesday 27, February 2008 |
The
game kicked off with both sides making a couple of changes from their
previous meeting only 4 days prior to this game. New Marske applied much
of the early pressure, won several corners and went close on more than
one occasion. Ashbrooke Belford House hadn’t looked a threat to
the New Marske goal but with 35 minutes played they won a dubious free
kick on the edge of the New Marske penalty area which PAUL ROBERTSON bent
round the wall and into the bottom corner of the New Marske net. From
the restart New Marske pressed even harder and paid the price when MICHAEL
CONNOR broke free and beat the advancing goalkeeper from 20 yards. HT:
2-0.
The
second half went much the same way as the first with New Marske pressing
all the way but being unable to score and again paid the price in the
65th minute when MICHAEL CONNOR scored his second goal from just outside
the penalty area. When SAM GARVIE, who had been the victim of some robust
tackling for most of the game, was dismissed, the ten men of New Marske
really raised their game and when GARY WOOD and his brother KEVIN WOOD
were sent on as substitutes things began to happen. After much New Marske
pressure, in the 85th minute GARY WOOD won the ball on the left, crossed
to SHAUN MACKIN who cleverly curled the ball into the bottom corner of
the net. New Marske were now totally on top and in the 89th minute GARY
WOOD ran into the box and hit an 18 yard screamer giving the Ashbrooke
keeper no chance. New Marske pressed hard for an equalizer but ran out
of time.

ASHBROOKE
BH 1 - 2 NEW MARSKE, (AET,
1-1 after 90 mins) League Cup, Round 3
Saturday 23, February 2008 |
The
strong wind blowing from end to end was always going to make this match
a lottery . New Marke kicked off with the wind at their backs and after
only 2 minutes SEAN MACKIN was pushed over in the six yard box and SAM
GARVIE stepped up dispatch the ball into the back of the net. New Marske
pressed forward their advantage and had a couple of chances well saved
by the home keeper. On 20 minutes Ashbrooke Belford House equalized from
a corner on the right. The ball was crossed low to the edge of the penalty
area, knocked goalwards and tapped in from 2 yards out. The rest of the
half was even with both teams having difficulty coping with the windy
conditions. HT: 1-1
New
Marske started the second half against the wind and it was soon obvious
that this suited there game much better. However, with only 10 minutes
of the second half played they suffered their first blow when centre back
PHIL PEGGS had to leave the field with a groin strain. MICHAEL MACKIN
went on as substitute and the team re-shuffled with MARTIN SAY filling
in at right back and MIKE KINNAIR moving into the centre back position.
Worse was yet to come when on 60 minutes MIKE KINNAIR was unfairly sent
off for a second bookable offence. Now, away from home, with only 10 men,
playing against the wind and with 30 minutes of the game remaining New
Marske faced a titanic struggle. In the 65th minute ALEX ANDERSON was
substituted for Club Captain NICKY WARD. The two substitutions seemed
to lift New Marske and they became stronger as the game progressed and
were unlucky not to win the match during normal time but the game went
into extra-time. FT: 1-1
After
only 5 minutes of extra time New Marske broke down the right, the ball
was crossed low into the box where the unmarked NICKY WARD rolled back
the years to his days as a striker and hammered the ball into the net.
Although Ashbrooke Belford House now pressed forward New Marske were always
in control with the pace of MARTIN SAY closing any gaps in the New Marske
defence. After 110 minutes midfielder DAVID HICK was sent on to consolidate
this well earned victory.
Another
away day for us at Whitehaven in the Semi-Final.

WOLVISTON
1 - 1 NEW MARSKE
Saturday 16, February 2008 |
The
last time New Marske played was at home on 26 January ahead of a run of
11 consecutive away matches. On a tricky and bumpy pitch New Marske’s
3 week lay-off showed and they were unable to get their flowing, passing
game going. In a dour first half the home side spent most of the time
in their own half but New Marske created few real scoring chances. Front
men Michael Dowse and Shaun Mackin showed some nice touches but were beaten
by the pitch on several occasions. The highlight of the half was the first
goal of the game, when SAM GARVIE beat the offside trap, latched onto
a through ball and hammered it past the Wolviston keeper into the net.
Ten minutes later New Marske were denied a definite penalty when Shaun
Mackin was brought down by two tackles on the edge of the six yard box.
HT: 0-1
The
second half continued in the same vain as the first and the Wolviston
equalizer came against the run of play when a New Marske attack broke
down on the halfway line, Wolviston got possession of the ball and played
it through a flat footed New Marske defence to Craig Brown who ran into
the penalty area and slipped the ball under the body of the New Marske
goalkeeper Justin Hutchinson.
A
game to forget as far as New Marske are concerned but its good to be back
playing after the lay-off and the unbeaten league record remains intact.

NEW
MARSKE 5 - 0 WILLINGTON
Saturday 26, January 2008 |
From
the kick off New Marske took the game to Willington and got the goal they
deserved on 5 minutes when from 20 yards out KRISTIAN KAMARA went to unleash
a shot with his right foot but dummied back inside to shoot with his left
into the top left hand corner. Willington came back into the game a bit,
playing some neat football but New Marske pressed again and got their
second on 37 minutes when some lovely passing football between Kristian
Kamara and Alex Anderson and Scott Davies eventually laid the ball to
SEAN MACKIN who side footed the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.
Two minutes later it was 3-0 on 39 minutes when a long ball from Martin
Say found Sean Mackin in the box who laid the ball off to SAM GARVIE who
unleashed a twenty yard left foot curler into the top corner. HT: 3-0.
In
the second half for the first 15 minutes Willington tried to spoil the
New Marske game with some hefty challenges which resulted in a few bookings
for Willington and from one of these incidents a free kick was awarded
which Nicky Ward took and found SEAN MACKIN unchallenged to head past
the keeper into the top corner. It was game over on 78 minutes when New
Marske got the fifth when winger SAM GARVIE jinked his way past three
defenders then rounded the keeper for a tap in into the corner.

NEW
MARSKE 4 - 4 JARROW FC
Saturday 19, January 2008 |
Game
kicked off on a heavy boggy pitch with NM having a few chances early on
from Alex Anderson and Sean Mackin with the Jarrow keeper making some
good saves, but against the run of play Jarrow went 0-1 up on 14 minutes
when a cross into the box found the Jarrow forward for an easy head in
but it was all square 1-1 on 19 minutes when a through ball found Phil
Peggs who crossed to MICHAEL MACKIN for a tap in to the roof of the net.
It was 2-1 on 24 minutes when a cross into the box from Scott Davies found
ALEX ANDERSON who brought the ball down and put the ball past the keeper
into the right hand corner. HT: 2-1
It was 3-1 on 51 minutes when a free kick took by Scott Davies was floated
into the box and the Jarrow keeper missed the ball and SEAN MACKIN headed
in on the line. New Marske made it 4-1 on 65 minutes when a defence splitting
pass by Danny Wilkinson found SEAN MACKIN who ran through to blast the
ball under the keeper. Jarrow made it 4-2 on 75 minutes when a cross into
the box was headed in by the Jarrow midfielder. With under 2 minutes to
go, Jarrow made it 4-3 when some good Jarrow passing led to the Jarrow
centre forward blasting the ball past keeper David Peacock and with almost
the last kick of the game Jarrow made it 4-4 when a shot from Jarrow from
15 yards made keeper David Peacock pull off a good save but the ball ran
loose and the Jarrow player scored from an acute angle.

WHITEHAVEN
AMATEURS 5 - 2 NEW MARSKE, Shipowners Charity Cup, QF
Saturday 12, January 2008 |
Game
kicked off in beautiful sunshine over in Cumbria but Whitehaven took the
game to New Marske and got the goal they deserved on 24 minutes when a
shot went in the top corner. Whitehaven still applied pressure with New
Marske not getting their game together but luckily for New Marske it stayed
1-0 to half time.
Second
half was only 3 minutes old when Whitehaven got the second on 48 minutes
after some sloppy defending. New Marske picked the game up and on 55 minutes
made it 2-1 from a MICHAEL KINNAIR header but Whitehaven came back 10
minutes later to make it 3-1. New Marske got a goal back again on 79 minutes
when SAM GARVIE jinked his way through and put the ball in the bottom
corner, but when New Marske had a chance to come back 2 quick goals near
the end finished us off when Whitehaven scored on 85 and 89 minutes. New
Marske never got going today and hopefully we will get back to winning
ways next week.

BLACK SWAN 1 - 6 NEW MARSKE
Saturday 5, JANUARY 2008 |
It
was 1-0 to New Marske on 6 mins when a cross from Kristian Kamara found
MICHAEL MACKIN to shoot into the bottom corner from 15 yards. It was 2-0
on 15 mins after a ball put over the Black Swan defence, Sam Garvie chased
the ball down but was brought down by the Black Swan keeper which resulted
in NICKY WARD converting the penalty. It was 3-0 on 30 minutes when another

colliding leaving SAM GARVIE to chip into the net. HT: 0-3.
It was 4-0 on 75 minutes when a free kick by Nicky Ward found SEAN MACKIN
unmarked in the box for a simple tap in. It was 5-0 on 83 minutes when

down but as the ball bounced in front of him he did a scissor kick putting
the ball into the far corner. It was 6-0 on 85 minutes when sub Josh Mitchell
beat two defenders and put SAM GARVIE through who rounded the keeper to
score. With the last kick of the game Black Swan got a consolation goal

NEW
MARSKE 7 - 0 SILKSWORTH COMMUNITY FC
Saturday 14, December 2007 |
SEAN
MACKIN opened the scoring on 19 minutes when he took Martin Say's cross
on his chest before volleying home. Two minutes later New Marske had the
chance to increase the lead when Sean Mackin was brought down in the box
but Nicky Ward's spot kick was well saved. The lead was increased moments
later however, when Michael Kinnair's cross was sliced into his own net
by a Silksworth defender.
After
the break tricky winger Sam Garvie's mazy run put in SEAN MACKIN for 3-0
and the same two players were involved when setting up ALEX ANDERSON to
tap in goal number 4. With just five minutes left on the clock the league
leaders bagged three more. PHILL PEGGS knocked in after Alex Anderson's
shot hit the post, and SEAN MACKIN blasted home for his hat-trick after
more good work from Sam Garvie. In the very last minute, SAM GARVIE collected
the ball 25 yards from goal, beat two defenders before slotting home into
the far corner from 15 yards.

EAST
DURHAM UTD 1 - 6 NEW MARSKE, League Cup, Round 2
Saturday 8, December 2007 |
The
game kicked off in blustery snowy conditions. It was 0-1 to New Marske
on six minutes when a cross from the left from Scott Davies found SEAN
MACKIN to head into the bottom corner. It was 0-2 to New Marske on 24
minutes when a good run by Sean Mackin ended up being fouled in the box
and twin brother MICHAEL MACKIN stepped up to take the penalty, Justin
Hutchinson in the New Marske goal made a couple of good saves to keep
East Durham out of the game. New Marske got the third on 32 minutes when
there was a run down the right wing by Sam Garvie who crossed the ball
and found CHRISTIAN KAMARA with space to blast the ball into the roof
of the net from six yards. HT: 0-3.

minutes when a cross from the right by Nicky Ward found SEAN MACKIN who
turned the defender and shot into the roof of the net for his hat trick.
East Durham got a consolation goal with ten minutes to go when a long
ball over the top beat New Marske defenders and the striker rounded the
keeper for a tap in. New Marske now progress to their third quarter final

MARSKE 2 - 0 COXHOE ATHLETIC
Saturday 1, December 2007 |
Leaders
battle to extend the gap
Report from Evening Gazette, Monday December 3, 2007
NEW
MARSKE stetched their lead at the top of the table to five points with
a hard-earned 2-0 home win over second-bottom Coxhoe Athletic. The table-toppers
extended their unbeaten start to the season while main rivals Whitehaven
dropped points in a goalless draw at lowly Silksworth - and they also
have two precious games in hand.
New
Marske got off to a flyer as they netted the opener after just three minutes
when flanker Sam Garvie cut in and beat his man then squared for striker
Sean Mackin to arrive unmarked in the box and drill home from 10 yards.
They missed a few good chances in the spell that followed before strugglers
Coxhoe fought their way into the game and the leaders were forced to defend
in numbers. New Marske were made to work hard in difficult conditions
but gradually they got on top. They sealed the game with a second on 66
minutes when Scott Davies crossed from the left and Michael Mackin arrived
to head in at the far post.

MARSKE 3 - 4 WHITBY TOWN, North Riding Senior Cup, Round 2
Tuesday 27, November 2007 |
THE
SENIORS are out of the North Riding Senior Cup after a narrow defeat to
Whitby Town this evening. In a lively encounter, New Marske were never
behind until a late final goal of the game. Whitby Town, without former
Middlesbrough defender, Dean Gordon but otherwise almost full strength
had to twice come from behind in the tie staged at Marske United's Mount
Pleasant ground.
New
Marske led at half time thanks to an ALEX ANDERSON strike, and the lead
was doubled shortly after the break when NICKY WARD scored from the spot.
Whitby then clawed their way back into the game, top scorer Danny Brunskill
scoring twice to level the tie. New Marske regained the lead with a fine
goal after substitute SAM GARVIE took on several Whitby defenders before
curling the ball past Dave Campbell in the Whitby goal. The Unibond Premier
outfit levelled the tie again shortly after when Tom Adams netted and
Tom Claisse grabbed the winner with just a few minutes remaining. It was
cruel on New Marske and Whitby go on to face Teesside Athletic, also of
the Wearside League in the quarter finals.

WHITEHAVEN
0 - 1 NEW MARSKE
Saturday 24, November 2007 |
After
the long bus journey to the other side of the country New Marske found
the Whitehaven pitch similar to our own pitch - in excellent condition
for this crucial six pointer. Game kicked off in perfect conditions with
White playing some neat passing football but for all their efforts they
were unable to break down a solid New Marske defence. When New Marske
did break out they looked very dangerous and to no surprise got the first
goal of the game on 35 minutes when from another good run by Sean Mackin
jinked past the Whitehaven left full back and put in a cross ball for
the unmarked MARTIN SAY to tap in. The rest of the half ended with very
few chances for either team in a midfield battle. HT 0-1.
In the second half Whitehaven took the game to New Marske but still for
all their efforts could not break down the New Marske defence and still
had not had a shot for David Peacock to save. New Marske were playing
good football and had a couple of chances to win the game comfortably
but the Whitehaven keeper made some good saves. The last ten minutes was
all Whitehaven pressure but still could not create a chance on goal. Excellent
performance from the team - did enough to win the game.
Bus journey back drank Cumbria dry ! (especially Penrith)

WOLVISTON
2 - 3 NEW MARSKE, Monkwearmouth Cup
Saturday 17, November 2007 |
Wolviston
scored within 2 minutes catching New Marske cold (1-0). On 15 minutes
New Marske got the equaliser when good work by Nicky Ward who put through
SEAN MACKIN to score from 10 yards (1-1). The rest of the first half was
a scrappy affair with both teams having some good chances but Justin Hutchinson
in the New Marske goal pulled off some good saves as did the Wolviston
keeper. HT 1-1.
Second half New Marske got into the game playing some good football but
against run of play Wolviston got a second goal (2-1). New Marske hit
back within 2 minutes on 48 minutes when a good cross from Christian Kamara
was headed in by MICHAEL MACKIN (2-2). The rest of the second half was
dominated by New Marske play and it was only a matter of time before the
winner went in and on hand was ALEX ANDERSON on 78 minutes to shoot from
close range (2-3). New Marske just kept position for the next 12 minutes.
This puts New Marske into their 3rd quarter final where mainly Cumbrian
teams await.

fielding a weakened team because of players at the Tyne/Wear Derby but
New Marske still wanted the three points which started off on 28 minutes
when Sam Garvie was fouled just outside the box and KRISTIAN KAMARA put
the free kick away into the top left hand corner of the goal. It was 2-0

was a goal mouth scramble and the ball fell to NICKY WARD to shoot into
the left hand corner.

WILLINGTON
FC 1 - 3 NEW MARSKE
Saturday 3, November 2007 |
Game
kicked off on a horrible rutted pitch and New Marske were 1-0 down on
20 minutes when a low 20 yard shot beat keeper Dave Peacock down to his
left hand side. New Marske were level within 3 minutes when a Willington
goalkeeping error allowed SEAN MACKIN to round the keeper and put the
ball into the bottom corner past the Willington defender. New Marske were
playing the better football and got the second just before half time when
good work by Kristian Camara crossed the ball for SEAN MACKIN to head
it into the left hand corner. HT: 1-2.
Second half was all New Marske who got the third goal half way through
the second half with a blatant hand ball which NICKY WARD converted the
penalty. The rest of the half New Marske just ran the game out keeping
the ball and playing some neat football.
A good away win which puts New Marske back on top of the table.

MARSKE 3 - 0 EASINGTON COLLIERY, Shipowners Charity Cup, Round 2
Saturday 27, October 2007 |
Game
kicked off with a blustery wind blowing down the pitch at Gurney Street,
Easington having a couple of headed chances from corners and New Marske
also trying from long range but to no avail. Midfield and defences of
both teams were strong in the first half and resulted in HT 0-0.
Second half kicked off with New Marske more determined and took the game
to Easington which resulted in New Marske first goal on 64 minutes –
a long throw from Michael Mackin to his twin brother Sean who flicked
the ball through for SAM GARVIE in the wing to round the defender and
blast the ball into the bottom of the net just skimming the post. Ten
minutes later it was 2-0 on 74 minutes when DANNY WILKINSON won the ball
in midfield and surged forward then played a one two with Martin Say then
hammered the ball from twenty yards into the bottom corner of the net.
Three minutes later it was 3-0 on 77 minutes when Sean Mackin was tripped
in the box which the referee waved play on but the linesman flagged for
a penalty which NICKY WARD executed into the left hand corner of the net.
On 88 minutes Easington where awarded a penalty which keeper JUSTIN HUTCHINSON
made a magnificent save.

MARSKE 4 - 1 CLEATOR MOOR CELTIC
Saturday 20, October 2007 |
On
a perfect day for football with the sun shining down on Gurney Street
and no wind New Marske took the game to Cleator Moor from the off and
persistent pressure paid off on 10 minutes when Sam Garvie raced down
the right wing and into the box and was tripped and referee gave a penalty
which NICKY WARD stepped up to take the penalty for 1-0. On 14 minutes
it was 2-0 when a cross from Scott Davies found SAM GARVIE to volley in
at the back post. On 33 minutes it was 3-0 when Sam Garvie went round
2 defenders and cut back for a pass for a NICKY WARD tap in. It was 4-0
on 43 minutes when a defence splitting pass by Kristian Kamara put SEAN
MACKIN through who ran on to put the ball under the keeper into the bottom
corner. HT: 4-0
Second Half Cleator Moor came out and put pressure on New Marske but the
back 4 held out strong but on 66 minutes they were awarded a dubious penalty
when Scott Davies tripped the striker which was 2 yards outside the 18
yard box but the linesman flagged for a penalty which ZACK RUDD converted.
The next 25 minutes New Marske just played the ball about to kill the
game for the 3 points.

HARTLEPOOL
0 - 1 NEW MARSKE (AET, 0-0 after 90 mins), League Cup, Round 1
Saturday 13, October 2007 |
New
Marske took on Hartlepool in the cup encounter as the only team to have
beaten Hartlepool this season so we knew it was going to be a tight game
but from the kick off New Marske took the game to Hartlepool and had numerous
chances in the first 20 minutes but could not put the ball in the back
of the net. The rest of the first half ended up a midfield battle with
some nasty tackles going in from both sides with the referee booking players
from both sides. HT: 0-0
Second
half Hartlepool came out and played the better football in the first 15
minutes and had some good chances which they put wide or high of the goal
then like the first half the game became slightly bad tempered with only
a few chances for both sides and it looked like the first team to score
would win the game, but neither could.
Extra
Time - first half of extra time was a dull affair with tired legs starting
to show on both teams and mistakes starting to happen but still no goals.
ET: HT 0-0
Second
half of extra time New Marske came out the stronger and with only 5 minutes
gone on 110 minutes Sam Garvie received the ball and beat the defender
up the right wing and crossed the ball which the Hartlepool defender missed
and ALEX ANDERSON put the ball into the bottom corner. The last 10 minutes
Hartlepool put pressure on but the New Marske defence held strong for
a deserved victory.
