NEW MARSKE 2 - 0 NEWTON AYCLIFFE SC, TJFA Challenge Cup, Round 3
Sunday 17, February 2008

Second consecutive week that the U14's have kept a clean sheet. With this cup fixture eventually getting played it was NM who made all the play. NA who sit at the top of the league this was going to be a tuff task for NM but they ran out easy winners. With three of our players cup tied it was a great opportunity for other players to come in and express themselves. All the lads gave 110% and played some good football throughout the game. Goals came from Matty Hall and a 20yd lob from Brad Hinchcliffe.

Well done boys - upwards and onwards

NEW MARSKE 3 - 0 FISHBURN BOYS
Sunday 10, February 2008

This was the U14's first game since the Christmas break. With an afternoon KO it looked like it was going to be postpone due too the fog, but the game got underway and the fog didn't upset things. With Grewgrass being out of action NM were treat to a run out on the main pitch, getting them ready for next season.

It wasn't long before NM got going and playing some lovely football in the fog. Jack Green getting on the end of a Matty Hall through ball to slot it passed the on rushing keeper. Matty Hall scored the second with some good supporting work off the midfield. Matty Hunter then struck the up right, but it was NM who did all the pressing. Fishburn were trying the long ball over the top but NM back four held tight and kept a clean sheet. When Fishburn did break the reliable Jack Shuttleworth was there to save anything thrown at him.

Second half and much of the same, NM pushing on. The pitch was now telling on the boys and substitution were made. NM came close again only to hit the post. With fresh legs NM pushed looking for the third and it was Connor Brine who slotted it in from 18yds, Matty Cole came close to claiming it. Well done to both side what was a game played in good spirit. And a special mention to the young referee who played his part.

NEW MARSKE 3 - 1 RICHMOND TOWN
Sunday 16, December 2007

After going a goal down after 5 mins New Marske came back into the game and took a well deserved lead in what was a very entertaining game. 2 goals from Matty Hall and 1 from Matty Hunter took the points. Debuts from Cane and Douthwaite, long awaited but finally they took to the pitch and looked very good signings for NM. All the lads did very well and put last weeks result right out their thoughts. More new signings on the way.

NEW MARSKE 6 - 0 YORK COLLEGE JUNIORS (North Riding Cup)
Sunday 11, November 2007

New Marske cruised into the third round of the North Riding Cup with a convincing win over a York College side who have made a great start to the season in Division 1 of the British Sugar York League. A great strike from new signing Brad Hinchcliffe gave the home side an early lead and then, on twenty minutes the same player found himself in space inside the penalty area and he gave the keeper no chance. Hinchcliffe was then denied a hat trick when a defender handled his goal-bound shot, but Matthew Hall stroked home the resulting penalty to ensure that justice was done. Just before the half time whistle Hinchcliffe sent a superb ball down the left for Matthew Hall to run on and lob the keeper.

In the second half New Marske understandably eased off and York College created a number of good chances, but stand-in keeper Lee Postgate remained calm under pressure. Two more goals from Matthew Hall sealed an impressive 6 - 0 win.

NEWTON AYCLIFFE SC 3 - 1 NEW MARSKE
Sunday 14, October 2007

From the start it was obvious that Newton Aycliffe were determined to get revenge for the 6 - 1 thrashing they received at Grewgrass Lane just last month as they used the sloping pitch to their advantage and put New Marske under almost continuous pressure. The New Marske defence held firm though for the first 25 minutes and then, in a rare break away, Matthew Hall shrugged off the home defenders to give them the lead against the run of play. It looked as though they would go into the interval in front, but deep into injury time a Newton Aycliffe boot latched onto a loose ball in the New Marske box to smash an equaliser high into the net. After the break the game was much more evenly balanced, with New Marske keeper Jack Shuttleworth being forced into a string of brave saves at one end, while strikers Matthew Hall and David Cody both went close at the other. Then, 10 minutes from time, the New Marske defence was caught appealing for an offside that the referee did not give and the home forward made no mistake. New Marske threw men forward in search of an equaliser and were unlucky on a couple of occasions before Newton Aycliffe broke away on the last minute to clinch the game with a third goal.

NEW MARSKE 1 - 4 TIBS
Sunday 7, October 2007

New Marske entertained Division 1 high flyers TIBS in the second round of the League Cup and gave them a real scare! Undaunted by their opponents reputation as one of the best teams in the region, New Marske attacked from the start and were rewarded after just 5 minutes when Matthew Hall latched onto a defensive slip to round the keeper and score. As expected, TIBS responded strongly and equalised inside 10 minutes with a stunning angled drive from outside the box that gave keeper Jack Shuttleworth no chance. Both teams were now playing excellent football, with New Marske matching their opponents stride for stride. After 25 minutes TIBS got their noses in front when they took advantage of their extra height from a corner to score with a close range header. Again, New Marske refused to fold and several times came agonisingly close to grabbing an equaliser before half time. As the second half progressed TIBS gradually began to gain more posession and put New Marske under pressure, but the home defense held firm, with Jack Green, Mathew Cole and keeper Jack Shuttleworth outstanding. New Marske still looked dangerous on the break and the result was in the balance right up until 10 minutes from time, when two goals in quick succession gave TIBS a very flattering scoreline. Even then New Marske were not finished and were very unlucky to have a seemingly good goal from Matthew Hall ruled out by the referee. Despite losing, New Marske can be extremely proud of this performance against a very good team.

NEW MARSKE 3 - 5 NORTH ORMESBY
Sunday 30, September 2007

New Marske battled bravely against a strong North Ormesby side, but eventually lost out to the very physical approach of their opponents. The home side got off to a bad start when keeper Jack Shuttleworth was felled by a collision with a North Ormesby attacker and the resultant loose ball was adjudged to have been handled by a defender, giving the visitors the advantage from the penalty spot. New Marske responded well, levelling the scores with a well-taken goal from Matthew Hall and then taking the lead when Louis Jinks pounced on a loose ball after the keeper had parried a shot from Matthew Hall. The game was end to end now and it was not long before North Ormesby drew level with an angled drive into the corner of the net. New Marske dug deep and came back to regain the lead before half time when Matthew Hall broke free to claim his second goal of the match. In the second half North Ormesby stepped up the pressure and their aggressive approach finally paid off with two goals in quick succession, giving them a 4 - 3 lead. To their credit, New Marske took the game to their opponents again and came close to equalising on a number of occasions before a late breakaway gave North Ormesby a somewhat flattering 5 - 3 win.

NEW MARSKE 6 - 1 NEWTON AYCLIFFE
Sunday 23, September 2007

New Marske took full advantage of a strong wind behind them to race into a 3 - 0 lead within 15 minutes against the early pace-setters in Division 3, Newton Aycliffe SC. Matthew Hunter opened the scoring after just 5 minutes with a brave diving header and then Jamie Harrington rounded the keeper to grab a second before keeper Jack Shuttleworth launched a long kick down field which bounced over the visiting keeper and into the net for number three. Playing into the wind in the second half, New Marske continued to dominate and it was no surprise when David Cody broke through to make it 4 - 0 and then Matthew Hall struck twice in quick succession to make it six. A late consolation goal for Newton Aycliffe made the final score 6 - 1; another excellent result for this impressive New Marske side.

NEW MARSKE 12 - 0 NORTHALLERTON JUNIORS 'B'
Sunday 16, September 2007

New Marske made light of the windy conditions to run riot against Division 6 side Northallerton 'B' in the 1st round of the TJFA League Cup. Midfield dynamo, Matthew Hunter, opened the scoring after just five minutes with a powerful run and shot. Despite playing into the wind, New Marske were camped in the Northallerton half, but did not increase their lead until on twenty minutes, when winger Michael Dolan's shot was deflected past the keeper. Within a couple of minutes Matthew Hall broke clear to slot home number three and then his strike partner, David Cody, ran in a first half hat-trick to make it 6 - 0 at the interval. With the wind behind them in the second half New Marske looked set to run up a cricket score, but to their credit, Northallerton kept battling away right until the final whistle, with their goalkeeper pulling off a string of fine saves. Despite their efforts though, New Marske continued to add to the score, with Matthew Hall and David Cody taking their tallies to 4 each, Matthew Hunter grabbing his second of the game and centre-back Jack Green getting his first of the new season.

MOUNT PLEASANT RANGERS 3 - 2 NEW MARSKE
Sunday 9, September 2007

Matthew Hall scored what must be one of the fastest goals ever in the TJFA - inside 5 seconds! The ball was touched to him from the kick off and he launched a shot over the home keeper from the half way line. Mount Pleasant hit back when New Marske keeper Jack Shuttleworth saved a penalty but could not stop the opponent smashing home the rebound. An end to end match then saw New Marske deservedly regain the lead before half time when Matthew Hall's driven cross was chested over the line by Louis Jinks. Mount Pleasant surged forward in the second half and, despite the outstanding efforts of New Marske's back four of Mathew Cole, Jack Green, Matthew Hunter and Dominic Wilson, they were eventually rewarded with first an equaliser and then, cruelly, a winner scored by Mount Pleasant's striker, who was lucky not to be pulled up for offside.
